ultraSECURE is now fully compatible with the Power Macintosh computers. Time-critical routines (such as encryption) have been re-written in PowerPC native code offering PowerMac users more than a five fold performance increase over the Quadra 950.
1.80 Improvements:
• Changed Administrator program to allow for more password options: Reserved Passwords, Password Construction, and Password History. Please see the addendums that accompany your ultraSECURE™ User’s Guide for further information.
• Fixed problem that sometimes prevents logoff events from being recorded in the audit trail
• Fixed warning message “The name and password copmbination was invalid." that sometimes incorrectly appeared at system startup.
• Made ultraSHIELD compatible with even more hardware and third party extensions.
1.501 Features:
• You can now use the Administrator program to deprotect disks. Just open the Administrator program, select Protect/Deprotect from the Administrator’s File menu and select the disk that you want to deprotect. Then click the “Deprotect” button. Next, type in the username and password of an administrator level user that resides on that disk.
• Log off can now be invoked by a simple key command. To use this feature, please see the Administrator’s “Idle Time” command in the Options menu.
• Now has option of log off/no log off on PowerBook sleep
• The screen saver has been improved. The animation is now smoother and the mouse must be held in the hot-spot for at least 1/2 second (this prevents unintentional activation of the screen saver).
• Click on Alarm Sound in the Log On Options window now causes the sound to be played
• You can now type the Escape key instead of using the mouse to click the “Cancel” button
Bug Fixes:
• The Macintosh ROM had an error in it since 1984. Apple released a hardware update in 1993 to fix the problem. Since not everyone installed the update, we re-wrote our software so that it will not be affected by that particular error in ROM. The ROM error had been creating problems on a very rare basis.
• Fixed an error that caused locked files to be improperly encrypted/decrypted when dragged from one folder to another
• We changed our software to accomodate the shareware program “Greg’s Buttons”
1.455 Features:
• The Access Controller Desk Accessory can now copy access settings from the selected folder to all enclosed folders. To copy the access settings simply click the, “Make all enclosed folders like this one” check box. Then click the “Save” button.
• You can enable System Extensions (INITs) to load before the ultraSECURE log on window appears at system startup. If you want system extensions to load first, use the Administrator’s Option menu, Log on command to select “Delay log on until all INITs have loaded”.
• Now you can create a “Warning Banner” to be displayed before the log on window appears. The Warning Banner can be thought of as an electronic “No Trespassing” sign. You have complete control over what is displayed in the Warning Banner, and you don’t have to use it at all. The Warning Banner is fully documented in User's Guide Update 1192-4-83-1.

• If your computer has been set up to Automatically Log On as Guest, you can now invoke the Log On Window when your computer starts up by holding down the Option and Command keys simultaneously.
• Now you can use the Layout Manager program to save an existing Access List as an Installation Script. This makes it possible to temporarily remove ultraSECURE, carry out some operation (such as optimizing the disk), and then quickly re-install ultraSECURE with the original Access List.
• The Layout Manager can also be used to preserve, and restore, the folder access privilege settings.
• To help minimize the time required to install the same ultraSECURE configuration on multiple computers, Access Lists and access privilege settings can be “Cloned” from one computer to the next with the Layout Manager.
ultraSECURE Improvements:
• The log off mechanism no longer interrupts long printing jobs.
• The new ultraSECURE screen saver more efficiently prevents applications and system extensions from drawing on the screen while the screen saver is active. And, when running on PowerBooks, the PowerBook backlighting will be automatically turned off when the screen saver is active. The backlighting will be turned on when the screen saver is deactivated.
• ultraSECURE will automatically log out when PowerBooks sleep.
Compatibility Notes:
• ultraSECURE has been tested, and continues to be tested, with a large variety of applications, Sytem Software, and System Extensions (INITs). If you find a compatibility conflict, please contact usrEZ as soon as possible with all pertinent information.
• System 7 Virtual Memory. ultraSECURE is fully compatible with Virtual Memory. However, if you have selected the ultraSECURE “Clear memory at log off” feature, and you have virtual memory turned on, there may be a long sequence of disk activity after the window turns black and before the log on window appears. This is normal operation. If the delay is unacceptable, turn the “Clear memory at log off” feature off.
• After Dark™. ultraSECURE has been thoroughly tested with After Dark 2.0. Under certain circumstances, the After Dark and/or the ultraSECURE black logon background may not update correctly. This is not an ultraSECURE error and it will not cause any other problems.
• Another After Dark problem. After Dark 2.0 can sometimes crash after the After Dark “When” button is depressed. This After Dark problem is neither caused, nor aggravated by ultraSECURE.
• SuperClock! ultraSECURE is fully compatible with SuperClock!. Sometimes the SuperClock! display will be visible when the ultraSECURE log out screen is being displayed, however, SuperClock! does not show through the ultraSECURE screen saver. SuperClock! shines through the log out screen because of our efforts to make After Dark and ultraSECURE fully compatible. To stop SuperClock! from showing through the ultraSECURE log out screen, use the SuperClock! control panel to select the “check if screen saver is running” option (check box).
• SuperClock! and the Macintosh® Classic. Our testing indicates that SuperClock! 4.0.1 and the Macintosh Classic are not compatible (SuperClock! crashes on startup). Other versions of SuperClock, and other Macintosh models were not tested. If your computer crashes, please Restart with the shift key down (Extensions off) and remove SuperClock!.
